This violin was completely handcrafted in the workshop of Gunter H. Lobe in 2018.
Gunter H. Lobe was born in 1961 in Bamberg, Germany, and is a famous German luthier with many awards for making stringed instruments.
– In 1977, he began his apprenticeship as a string instrument maker in Bubenreuth and Mittenwald.
– In 1980 he won second place in the national competition for young craftsmen (Leistugswettbewerb der Handwerksjugend).
– In 1987, he graduated with honors, received his master’s degree and began his career as a professional string instrument maker.
Soon after, he opened his own workshop.
– In 1999 he moved to Bubenreuth near Erlangen, and in May 2008 he moved his workshop to a new location in the town.
– In 1989, he won a silver medal for his violin at the International Stringed Instruments Exhibition in Mittenwald.
– In 1991 he became a member of the Association of German String Instrument Manufacturers “Deutschen Geigenbauer- and Bogenmacher Verbands eV”.
– In 1994, he won a silver medal for his viola at the 7th Antonio Stradivari International Competition in Cremona.
– In 1997 he won the cello prize at the Triennale in Cremona.
At the 3rd International String Instrument Competition in Mittenwald, he won second place in the sound category for cello.
– In 1998, he became a member of the Craftsman Jury in the Handicraft category.
– In 2001, he won a special prize at the Jakobus Steiner International String Instrument Competition for his cello modeled after Matteo Goffriller (1659-1742).
– In 2003, he presented his new cello (a replica of Domenico Montagnana 1686-1750) at the International Music Festival in Frankfurt.
At the Triennale in Cremona he was honored as Germany’s best violin maker.
– In 2006, he won second prize and special prize at the 11th Antonio Stradivari International Competition in Cremona with a Guarneri model violin.
– In 2007, he completed a near-facsimile of Guarneri’s original “The Cannon”.
– In 2008 he was elected president of the Association of String Instrument Manufacturers in Erlangen.
